When you’re confident in who you are you will have no reason to compare yourself with others.

Your weaknesses and faults are illuminated when you start to compare yourself, judge others and put them down.

Confidence is not about being better than your neighbor (no matter what he/she has or hasn’t done to you.) Confidence is about being the best you that you can possibly be and rockin’ it like nobody’s business. Are you judging or speaking poorly of someone because your lacking in confidence?

Remember judging a person doesn’t define who they are, it defines who you are.

There will be days you feel anything but confident and that’s ok, keep showing up, keep doing the work sometimes you have to play the part and practice many, many times. But you are here for a reason my friend, God made you to share the gifts he has given only you and there is only one you! Start acting like it 😘 Be confident! ✌️Love and be loved! ❤️

You Can Make A Difference ☀️

Self-Awareness, Transcendence

Recently I watched the movie Transcendence with Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman. It was definitely entertaining but what I enjoyed most was the fact that it made me think. The movie reminded me of how dependent we are on the internet, the beauty of all that’s intertwined with our creator and the simple truth of why we were created. “He created us to be with him.”

In the movie, they had created a smart computer that could do an astounding number of things except be human with feelings and emotions. The skeptic would ask the computer named, Pinn, “ Are you self-aware?” Pinn would then say, “That’s an interesting question, are you self-aware?”  Hmm, self-awareness, am I self-aware? How is being self-aware beneficial? Does being self-aware mean I’m selfish?

Wikipedia defines self-awareness as the capacity for introspection and the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from the environment and other individuals. Introspection is the examination of one’s own conscious thoughts and feelings

In my yoga classes, near the end in savasana, I remind everyone to take note and be more aware of how they are feeling and how their body is feeling in the present moment. It seems we have to be reminded to be self-aware it’s not something that comes easily for most of us. We often do think of ourselves but it’s usually to judge or beat ourselves up over something we’ve said, done or ate. This is not self-awareness, this is self-judgment. Self-awareness allows us to examine our behaviors and thoughts without judgment. It’s a way to detach for a moment and simply observe what is going on within ourself. This is a healthy observation that we can commit to daily. It’s not selfish to observe and be aware of where we are in the moment. It’s actually selfish not too. We are constantly going, we have so many demands and people depending on us to make it all happen that setting aside 10-15 minutes or however much time we can manage allows us to create a healthy balance. It gives us a moment to check in and see what we need in order to be able to give our best.

How do we create more self-awareness? Meditation is a great way to start creating more self-awareness. Taking 5-10 minutes to sit and observe your thoughts can help you refocus and redirect. Allow yourself the freedom to be still. If you have a particular issue or question that’s been weighing on your mind. I challenge you to take that question or issue and write it down, find yourself a quiet spot even if it’s only for 5 minutes. Set a timer if necessary, I’ve done this on several occasions. Ask yourself that question and be still, be silent, see what comes up. Don’t judge your thoughts that pass through, simply sit with them and see what they are telling you. A lot of times we already know the answer in our heart but we’re so busy and consumed with being everything for everybody else that we forget that we have to take care of ourself first. Maybe the answer will not come the first or second time but take time to listen to what your body and your instincts are trying to share with you. It’s the same good advice that we are advised on every time we fly “in case of an emergency, put your oxygen mask on first before attempting to help others.” In order to help others, we must first help ourselves.

9 Tips for Getting What You Want

1. Build a Foundation. Start somewhere. Make a list. Write a one-page business plan. Do something. If you simply start the process other ideas will flow to you.

2. Be Willing to do the Work. Step outside of your comfort zone. The work may not be what you envisioned. You may have to do things to promote yourself that makes you squirm. You may have to take jobs that you don’t want in order to prepare you for your end goal. Be willing, show up and keep learning.

3. Be Patient. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Many successful people spend years perfecting their business plans and ideas. Learn to adapt and go with the flow. It’s a process which means it will take time and effort. Learn to be creative and do what you can where you are with what you have.

4. Become the Expert. Research and educate. Learn everything you can about your plan, idea, career or hobby.  You need to know the ins and outs, the ups and downs and everything in between to fully believe and support what you’re putting out into the world.

5. Be Authentic. It’s great to have role models and people that you admire but don’t try to copy them. Think of ways you can do or create something with a flare that’s all your own. This may take time but once you personalize your idea, no one can copy that. They may try but you can’t copy authenticity.

6. Be Confident. Have you ever believed in someone 110%? Someone or something that you tell about to everyone you know? Market yourself or your idea in this same way.  It won’t be easy at first especially if you’re not a natural sales person, but think about how it appears to you when someone is only half behind what they are selling. No matter how great it is or isn’t, it highly effects the way you view them and/or the product. This is not a time to think about your faults or failures. We’re all hard enough on ourselves as is, this is the time to sell the confident, unique and amazing YOU! That’s right, you are amazing! Sell it! Make them want it!

7. Be Determined. Rejection is a terrible feeling but by being rejected we can learn a valuable lesson. Shift your focus, don’t think of “no” as negative but begin to use the word “no” to your advantage. Create an opportunity to redirect your thoughts and evaluate your strategy. Learn from it, be adaptable but don’t let it deter you.  As the quote says, “Want it more than you’re afraid of it.” Allow it to make you stronger and inspire your journey.

8. Don’t be afraid to Fail. Put yourself out there that’s the only way to succeed and it’s the only way to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Know that you are not alone and that every amazing person before you has failed at something. Keep moving forward. You will get there maybe not on your schedule but it will happen. Don’t give up!

9. Be Grateful. Use the talents you were given and be thankful for each and every opportunity. “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.”

Recently updated my about me page on my blog and wanted to share. Thank you to everyone who has followed me 🙂

Yoga, motivation and inspiration is what I hope to share with you in my posts weekly and sometimes daily. As a full-time assistant and a part-time yoga instructor, I manage to keep myself busy and it seems I’m always juggling a new hobby or adventure. Lately, I’ve been posting daily and I love to write and share my thoughts and ideas. You can expect 2-3 posts a week from me but possibly more.

I hope to inspire, interact and connect with like minded people through my blog. My inspiration comes from reading, life experiences and my random thoughts. Posts consist of yoga, short youtube yoga tutorials, my life stories and lessons and much more. I want share goodness, light and love and put positive energy into the world while still keeping in my mind both the joys and struggles that life brings. And yes, I realize that makes me sound like a bit of a hippie but I am that too, I suppose. 🙂

More randomness about me……I’m not a vegan but I try to eat healthy. With one of my favorite foods being pizza and my love for trying new wines it sometimes proves to be challenging. When I’m not on a yoga mat, you can find me on the lake paddle boarding or maybe out hiking the beautiful mountains of east Tennessee. Tennessee would be perfect, if only we had an ocean!

I read a quote the other day and it is my current motivation and hope. “Be the one who nurtures and builds. Be the one who has an understanding and a forgiving heart. One who looks for the best in people. Leave people better than you found them.” So I hope that’s what I can do for everyone I interact with in life. It’s a good goal and nice start.

Fear is only as powerful as you allow it to be in your life.

By nature, I’m shy. At parties or gatherings, I’m the one standing in the corner, keeping to myself especially if I don’t know anyone and sometimes even if I do.  You know the type, never speaking unless spoken too. Crowds make me anxious and public speaking? Forget about it. Barely passing speech class in college, my fears let me believe for a long time that public speaking wasn’t something I could do. Fear of public speaking or simply being in front of a crowd paralyzed me.

Several years ago, I was taking a Pilates class, I love group classes. Mainly because their motivating and after a while you become like family encouraging one another and checking up on each other. Why am I telling you this? Because in that class was where I decided I wanted to teach group fitness, in particular yoga and pilates. At that time, that seemed about as doable for me as flapping my arms to fly. Even my family and friends were a bit shocked. “You want to do what?” They would say. But I wanted it more than I was afraid of it. I had no idea how I was going to get up in front of people, let alone lead a class. But I knew I had never let fear stop me before so I was determined to find a way.

I already had a full-time office job. But I took a part-time job. Doing what you ask? Selling jewelry, you know the type where you go to people’s homes and host parties. This was completely out of character for me and definitely out of my comfort zone. I knew this would force me to get up in front of people and speak. It terrified me, I was sick to my stomach with nerves on many occasions even while preparing to get up in front of friends. I knew that if I could do this, if I could step outside of my comfort zone I would be one step closer to something that I really wanted. At no time, was this easy for me. It was a struggle mentally and physically. I may have poured sweat, chucked a few dinners and even been on the verge of passing out on more than one occasion. But I did it!

At some point during my stint of selling jewelry, I realized that my dream of teaching was getting closer. My fear of being in front of people had not gone away entirely but it was more manageable. So I then begin my research and ventured into the fitness realm. Obtaining fitness certifications and gaining teaching experiencing was also challenging and took several months to begin teaching. It wasn’t easy getting my foot in the door but I went wherever I could find an opening and I showed up and I  tried and I prepared and I did the very best I knew how. The nerves were still there and I still got sick on occasion especially at first but I kept going.

Now, I teach yoga 3-5 times a week. I still get nervous in front of the class sometimes but nothing like what I use too. I love that I stepped outside of my comfort zone to do what was once unthinkable to me. My friend looked at me just the other day and said, “It still surprises me that you teach yoga.” I looked at her and smiled because it still surprises me too.

Don’t wait for opportunities to come to you. Go after opportunities. “Fear is nothing more than an obstacle that stands in the way of progress. In overcoming our fears, we can move forward, stronger and wiser within ourselves.”
